My interest in the Battle of Britain started when I was building a radio controlled Spitfire 12 years ago. While researching the plane for detailing, I became facinated with the pilots, the despiration and intensity of the battle, and how close the Luftwaffe came to destroying the RAF. It has been estimated that had the Luftwaffe continued their bombing of the RAF airfields instead of concentrating their efforts on London (Hitler ordered the switch in retaliation for an RAF bombing of Berlin), the RAF would have been out of commission in two weeks. Then, with the Luftwaffe in control of the skies over the channel, the invasion of Britain could begin. To learn more of the pilots of these planes, click on the buttons next to their names.
I began the illustrations ten years ago as a way to learn Photoshop. Each illustration took between 100-130 hours (chalk some of that up to the low end of the learning curve). I used nearly every tool in the program and had more than 40 paths for each plane. The pilot illstrations were produced with a Wacom tablet. I plan to print an unlimited Collectors Series which would include these 3 illustrations and the three with the pilots and aircraft info. in the near future.
